It’s a dystopian work where the double whammy of global climate disaster and economic crisis results in the destruction of the small community protagonist Lauren grew up in. Eerily (for contemporary readers), it begins in what was once the near-future for Butler but is now our present moment. Octavia Butler’s classic series, originally published in the 1990s, consists of Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents. ![]()
